    Cyndi Powell Chaney

    Executive Director

Cyndi Powell Chaney serves as Executive Director of Shelby County Community Theatre (SCCT), bringing together a lifetime of experience in theatre, education, communications, and community engagement. Her connection to SCCT began at the age of 10 when she auditioned for The King and I. With her mother serving as pianist for many SCCT productions, the theatre quickly became a second home and sparked a passion for the arts that would shape her life's work.

Inspired by her experiences at SCCT, Cyndi earned degrees in Speech and Theatre Education and History. She later completed a Master’s degree and Rank I certification in Secondary Education, with emphases in Gifted Education and Communication. Over the course of a distinguished 25-year career, she taught theatre and history, inspiring generations of students through the arts and humanities. She then served for eight years as Public Relations Coordinator for Shelby County Public Schools, where she became a strong advocate for public education and community partnerships.

Throughout her career, Cyndi has directed more than 100 theatrical productions, including multiple award-winning entries in the Kentucky Theatre Association’s High School Play Festival and Community Theatre Festival. Her work has earned recognition for artistic excellence, educational impact, and a commitment to developing young performers and theatre artists.

Following her retirement from public education, Cyndi was thrilled to return to the organization that first inspired her love of theatre. As Executive Director of SCCT, she combines her extensive experience in education, communications, and the performing arts to lead the organization into its next chapter. Her vision includes expanding programming opportunities, strengthening community partnerships, and ensuring that quality arts experiences remain accessible to all.

For Cyndi, serving SCCT is more than a profession—it is a homecoming to the organization that helped shape her career, fueled her passion for the arts, and continues to enrich the cultural life of Shelby County.
